Why do people play Backgammon ?

Backgammon is one of the world's oldest games. It is believed to be thousands of years old.
It may well have originated in what today is Iraq—previously Mesopotamia. The Emperors Claudius & Nero were keen players. Backgammon is also mentioned in early literature, both in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and by Shakespeare in Love's Labour's Lost. Today, people from every continent are regularly playing backgammon.

Backgammon combines a lot of skill and a little luck. If you understand the logic, getting an advantage over your opponent is easy. It is possible to have a good life as a Backgammon professional, but you have to work at it. It is not enough to understand the odds and have a few winning sessions. You need long-term focus, discipline and a commitment to consistently improving your skills in order to succeed.

Many people play Backgammon simply because they like the game. Some people play Backgammon just to get out and meet others, and you can make some great friends and connections over a backgammon game.
